FAQs

I’m keen to work with you. How do I get the process started?

Please get in touch via the contact form or email and we will be back in touch with you to arrange a first consultation or to chat further about your project. After this short call, we can provide an upfront estimate of our fees, before you commit to a home consultation.

Can I book you for a one-off consultation?

Yes, we can meet you for a one-off consultation if you’re looking for guidance on particular aspects of your project or perhaps you require a home paint consultation. This is priced according to your specific requirement, so please get in touch to arrange.

Do you offer video consultations?

Yes, you can book a one hour video consultation, during which you can receive professional decor and design advice on any aspect of your home. Please click here for more details and to book.

What budget do I need?
We will work to whatever budget you have in mind, large or small!

What are your fees?

A full outline of design services offered and associated fees can be found here and on the individual services pages.

Do you charge for the first in-home consultation?

During the first home consultation, we require time to assess the space, openly discuss what you wish to achieve from the design, formulate a brief, explore some initial ideas and measure up. This investment of our time and the open nature of our discussion forms the basis of the success of your design, hence we charge £75 (plus travel fee if applicable) for the first consultation. The exception to this is the Room Design Package, which includes the first consultation in the price.

How does your service differ from a ‘traditional’ interior designer?
Unlike a traditional interior designer, we don’t normally install the design for you. We give you everything you need, including the confidence, to do it yourself. This cuts out costs and makes the service more affordable for you. That said, we are also able to project manage any aspect of a design scheme or renovation should you request it.

Do you design kitchens and bathrooms?
Yes. If you are embarking on a kitchen or bathroom re-model, we can assist with choosing all aspects of your new project, including layout, cabinetry, hardware, surfaces and finishes, as well as flooring, decor and accessories. We are happy to work alongside your preferred kitchen supplier or fitter, if required. Please contact us to discuss your requirements..

Can you recommend contractors to me?
Depending on where you live, we can provide recommendations of tradespeople we have worked with on previous projects. However, it would be your responsibility to contact and manage them and we cannot accept any responsibility or liability for their work.

What if I don’t like suggested products/furnishings when they arrive or they are lost/damaged in transit?
We make recommendations in good faith that retailers and suppliers provide accurate descriptions, dimensions and images on their website, and that they will provide a quality service and product. However, it is the client’s responsibility to order the items and make themselves aware of each individual supplier’s returns and refunds policy, just in case it is not what you expect. While we have good experience of working with many retailers and suppliers, we cannot accept any responsibility or liability for their goods.

What happens at the first home consultation?

The first consultation normally lasts around 1 hr and gives us time to meet you, discuss your project requirements and get a feel for your home. During this time we will also measure up the space and take photographs for our own records. Within 24 hours of our meeting, you will receive a follow up email outlining the brief, estimated fee and projected schedule of design work.

What are the timescales of your services?
After the first consultation, we will schedule your project in and inform you of the expected start date. Please note this can vary depending on how far in advance we are booked up with other client work. Once we begin a project, it will take 2-3 weeks to prepare your concept and design. Then it normally takes another week to carry out any revisions and agree on the final design. For more extensive projects, the time taken to prepare designs will depend on the scale of the project, however this will be communicated to you.

How will you communicate with me?
We can be contacted via phone, email, Zoom or Whatsapp throughout the duration of a project. We will discuss your preferred form of contact during the first consultation. (Please note that we are only available to respond to Whatsapp messages during working hours (Mon-Fri 9am - 6pm) and not at weekends/evenings). For urgent requests outside of these times, please phone us.

When do I have to pay you?
Payment terms are clearly set out on the Terms of Service page. We normally request a deposit of £100 upfront to book in consultancy work (prior to the first consultation) or 50% of the agreed room package fee in order to book your work in. Consultancy work is charged at month end.

What if I am unhappy with your designs?

During the first consultation we will spend time getting to know your style preferences to ensure we have a clear idea of what you like before the design process is started. The first stage of the design is the Concept, which ensures our ideas are aligned before we implement the design scheme. There is the option for a number of design revisions, however if you are still not satisfied, we can meet to discuss where the design is going wrong and how we can move forward to achieve the result you are after.

Can you offer evening appointments?

Yes. If you are unavailable to meet during the day, we offer home consultations on Mon/Tue/ Wed evenings at 7pm. Saturday morning consultations (between 10am-12pm) can be arranged with an additional fee. Please get in touch to discuss.

What regions do you provide a service to?

Dekkobird Design is based in Belfast and we offer face-to-face design services within a 30 mile radius of the city, with a travel surcharge for client visits outside of the Greater Belfast area. This will be communicated to you upon booking your first consultation. If you live outside this area, we are happy to offer you an online interior design service, so please get in touch to discuss. Remote consultations are available throughout the UK & Ireland.
