As a family, we are very privileged to live in a city that proudly boasts one of the top farmer’s markets in the UK & Ireland, St George’s Market. We have loved bringing the kids there most weekends since they were very little and it’s been fantastic to watch “our wee market” and its weekly traders thrive over the years. In recent years people have become much more aware of the importance of organic ‘clean’ eating and I suppose buying from a local market allows us a degree of control in knowing where the produce has come from and how it has been produced. It follows that farmer’s markets have now become almost fashionable to be seen shopping in and therefore it’s not entirely surprising that there is a certain trend for all things natural, organic and recycled which has emerged in the home decor department (you knew there’d be a link to home interiors here somewhere…!)
It has inspired me to source some wholesome homewares for your perusal… so take a peek!
I love these practical hessian baskets from Next. They come as a set of three and are wipe clean – an added bonus when used in the kitchen. Stash a couple in your fruit and veg cupboard to prevent it from gathering dirt from the fresh produce. It would also make for a good bread basket.
This market tray channels some French farmhouse chic with its rustic wood finish and Gallic charm. How about using it as a handy yet quirky way to transport drinks into the garden on a warm day? Or filled with some pretty blooms or summer herbs for a relaxed outdoor display. I have also seen similar boxes filled with chopping boards, salt and pepper grinders and glass kilner jars filled with dry food staples as an easy kitchen standby.
These cotton tea towels with their simple design and on trend print give a definite nod to ‘organic chic’. Their almost Scandi slant really appeals to me and I think they will look good in any style of kitchen.
I adore this little metal vase from H&M. It would look great with a few simple sprigs of white flowers or a clutch of fresh herbs and its tarnished coppery finish is bang on trend (read my earlier copper post here). It also comes in a lovely silver pewter finish.
Again, this little set of delicate hand finished recycled glass vases are destined to be styled up along a mantelpiece or interest shelf with delicate sprigs or, later in the year, some burnished Autumn twigs. Simplicity at its most beautiful.
Just a teeny selection but have you spotted anything else along a similar line?
