With Christmas literally just around the corner, the shopping days left in the calendar are quickly falling away. Hopefully you will be super organised and have everything wrapped up and safely installed under the tree, however for many of us (me included!), there is often the stress of that last present or two that we are simply struggling to find inspiration for.
With this in mind, I was therefore delighted to be contacted by the lovely Katrina, who co-runs Designers in Detail, an exclusive pre-Christmas pop-up shop, showcasing some of the best designers and makers from all over Ireland. Located in the beautiful Victorian surroundings of Maryville House, off Lisburn Road, Belfast, the collection features unique and carefully designed gifts for men, women and children, including ceramics, jewellery, textiles, skincare, homeware pieces, leather and tweed bags, cookbooks and candles, as well as a fantastic children’s range of clothing, toys and books. Many of these designs aren’t available locally here in Northern Ireland, so if you’re looking for that unique, individual gift for someone, I urge you to visit the pop-up shop – it’s open between 11 and 5 everyday (except Sun) until Christmas Eve, upstairs in Maryville House, 2 Maryville Park (above the Maryville Tearoom), so you’ve a few days left to have a browse and hopefully find that perfect gift!
I went along to see what products were on offer and was bowled over by the raw talent that our little island has to offer. From ceramics by renowned Irish ceramicists Adam Frew and Rebecca Killen, to beautiful cushions meticulously created by Katie Larmour using Irish linen and exquisite vintage and antique silks, the quality of items on offer at the pop-up certainly did not disappoint. Other makers and designers to be found there include Bricolage, creating contemporary quilts and homewares, Ail + El, whose creations include contemporary and unique homeware pieces and succulent holders crafted from concrete, Loft Trading, Fleur Jackson, boutique wool pieces from Elks, Candella Candles and Martin Gallagher Furniture and home accessories, amongst many more.
The pop-up shop itself is a preview of what to expect from the full Designers in Detail ecommerce site due to be launched in early 2017, so keep an eye out for the official launch, as well as daily updates and product news, by following the Designers in Detail Facebook page.
Here are some items that I particularly loved and that would all make amazing Christmas gifts… or perhaps a little something for yourself, after all the hard work spent shopping for others this month!
How gorgeous are these ceramic baubles and stars by Rebecca Killen?
Some stunning Adam Frew ceramics…
I love this collection of pieces – the bowl is by Fleur Jackson, the espresso cups and jug by Adam Frew, the ceramic succulent planter by Ail + El, the linen cutlery holders are by Bricolage (these would be perfect at a summer BBQ!) and the linen scarf is by LOFT Belfast.
How soft are the colours in this Katie Larmour quilt? Also pictured are some of her children’s cushions, sewn up using rare vintage and antique silks.
I love the simple, clever design of this wood key and coins holder from Martin Gallagher Furniture. The candle is in Pomegranate from Candella.ie and packaged in a linen pouch.
This beautifully feminine linen cushion cover is by Katie Larmour, the grey wool cushion is an Elks one. Both would provide lovely texture to a room.
This Kilner jar hanging pendant lamp would add a cool, industrial edge to a space and features a thick coloured cord, allowing you to hang it at the height you prefer. It is from Refound, Belfast.
Do take the opportunity to pop over to see the full range whilst the shop is open. Or why not stop for some afternoon tea in the well-renowned Maryville Tearoom downstairs, too – shopping AND cake? What’s not to love?!
I’m also delighted to be hosting my first giveaway, in collaboration with Designers in Detail! For the chance to win this gorgeous hand poured copper candle in ‘Wood’ by Kildare-based makers Candella.ie, just enter the giveaway by choosing one of the links below…
The candle, set into luxurious copper, is part of the ‘Earth’ collection of candles at Candella and has a fresh, woody scent, based on notes of sandalwood and patchouli. It has been designed and hand poured in their studio in Kildare and is made using natural soya wax. It would make a beautiful addition to any home.
