Whilst on our recent trip to the north of Italy and Croatia, we not only stayed in a really beautiful Croatian villa (you can read about it here); we also ended our holiday with a two night stay in a gorgeous little B&B near the lovely town of Treviso. I wanted to share this place with you, as I immediately fell for its charming interior with its simple nordic touches and beautiful blend of old and new..
B&B ‘Alle Corti’ is a former silk spinning mill dating back to the mid 1700s and has been beautifully and thoughtfully refurbished into a modern, yet very cosy, place to stay. It was bought over a year or so ago by the lovely Kjerstin, who originally hails from Norway, and her Italian husband. Kjerstin has definitely influenced the decor with her nordic roots – the traditionally rustic Italian decor has been subtly modernised with scandinavian touches and simple detail to great success.
I was lucky enough to be shown around the B&B rooms by Kjerstin, so I’m glad you’ve popped by to take a look!
Where we stayed: B&B Alle Corti, Pianzano, near Treviso
Expect to see: rolling Veneto countryside, the backdrop of the Italian Dolomites, rustic villages and pretty towns
The entrance area boasts beautiful exposed stone walls and a traditional wood beamed ceiling, yet the whole space is bathed in natural light thanks to the big windows upstairs and lack of fussy window treatments. The decor has been kept really simple, so that the exposed stone and original features take centre stage.
I love the mezzanine level on the first floor – it’s a great spot for guests to sit and relax with a book or coffee in the evening. The hints of greenery around the place and the colourful Persian style rug make it feel so cosy and give it that lovely, laidback, almost boho vibe.
Kjerstin has added lots of little sitting nooks like this one overlooking the back courtyard..
And this corner area too… I just love the rustic simplicity of it!
Opening off this mezzanine level is one of the double bedrooms – Kjerstin loves this room as it’s tucked away in the back and has been decorated in a palette of soft grey hues – the perfect romantic getaway spot!
My youngest liked the mini window! There’s also a skylight in the ceiling so you can literally lie and watch the stars!
Off the other side of the mezzanine level is a small library corner.
Decorated in a more traditional taste, the furnishings in this bedroom originally came from a ship! I love how the chartreuse green velvet on the chairs is picked up in the traditional nordic style rug on the floor.
There is a pretty view over the village from this room and beyond you can just make out the silhouette of the Dolomite mountain range. In fact, Kjerstin told me the nearest ski station is only 45 minutes away, so it’d be a good spot for a short winter break, too!
This is the back of the main entrance building, which opens out onto a courtyard style garden.
The breakfasts were amazing too and were served at a big rustic table in the entrance hall. Kjerstin likes to offer a selection of organically sourced produce and homemade breads and preserves. Her Norwegian cinnamon bread rolls were divine, of course! She also makes a mean cappuccino.. a true Nordic-Italian!
We had a truly wonderful (however all too short) stay at B&B Alle Corti. It was the perfect location to base ourselves for exploring Treviso and the surrounding area, however it is only a short journey to Venice, too.
