Just where has February gone? It seems as if the year just suddenly starts to accelerate as soon as we have trudged our slow way through January (how long can 31 days feel?!). I realise things here at Dekko Bird have been very quiet of late, as we settle into our new home (lots more on that later…!), but I have had the nicest time this past couple of weeks just pottering around getting to know the place and starting to think about how I want to decorate rooms and make it our own space. It’s going to take a long time, but I like to think of it as an organic process whereby the humdrum of daily life will dictate how we physically live here. It’s probably a good thing that we don’t have a wad of money readily available to spend on the house, as it makes us step back and take some time to consider how the rooms will be used, how our existing furnishings can be placed to best effect and (the fun part!) to look around and source furniture pieces, fabrics and homewares, new and secondhand, that we can find a special place for.
Needless to say, my head is one long to-do list, however here are some things I’m loving lately along the way: (more…)
Hello February! I’ve been waiting patiently for you! This is going to be a very busy week for my family and I as we embark upon a house move that we have been looking forward to for months!! Being a busy mum of three, however, means that unfortunately I can’t spend these final few days surfing Pinterest and day-dreaming about paint colours and curtain fabrics, but rather packing toys, clothes, bedlinen and other paraphernalia into bags and boxes; all the time remembering to have clean uniforms to hand and packed lunches (grrr, even the thought of them!) ready for each morning. In short, for the children, life must go on regardless of minor ‘blips’ such as house moves that happen to be taking place at the end of the week…
I mightn’t have a lot of spare minutes in the day for blogging over the next week or two (please be understanding!), so I’d better get on with this and tell you what I was loving lately in January:
Firstly, apologies! This November linky is a little on the late side, but like the rest of you, December and the excitement, busyness and craziness that go along with it, has arrived, and it seems only a moment ago that we were almost basking in the glory of the warm Autumn sunshine and those beautiful colours!
However, whilst we get used to this rather chilly, damp weather so often associated with early winter, let’s take a brief look back at the little things I was loving in the last four weeks of my favourite season… here’s looking at you, November!
Here we are at the end of October… how on earth did that happen?! It seems that just as we are fully embracing all that this particularly beautiful Autumn has had to offer, our thoughts are beginning to turn from falling leaves, countryside foraging and smoky bonfires to frosty mornings, twinkling fairy lights and late night shopping. However, before we get to all of that, let’s take a wee breather with my monthly look back at some of the things I’ve been loving this October…
We are well and truly into autumn now and looking back, September has been pretty kind to us here in Northern Ireland. Plenty of autumnal sunshine, crisp misty mornings and not a lot of the usual wet stuff falling onto our heads! Hopefully it’s a sign of the times to come and we can expect settled weather and lots of long walks in the beautiful countryside as the season changes.
September for me not only marks the beginning of my absolute favourite time of year, it is also my birthday month and I was very spoilt this year with a scrummy dinner out with my other half and of course some gorgeous gifts too. Who said turning 39 was a bad thing? If 40 is half as good as this birthday, I’ll be a happy girl!
Have a look at some of my lovely new treasures and find out what else I’ve been loving this month… (more…)
I can hardly believe that we are all of a sudden on the cusp of Autumn, all memories of our summer holiday rapidly fading with the onset of crisper mornings, turning leaves and back to school routines. For me, August has been a much more relaxed month than the previous one, when my days were filled with packing boxes, calls to estate agents and the general stresses associated with moving house.
However, as we say our goodbyes to this summer, I’ll leave you with the little things I’ve loved in August (the weather here in NI not being one of them I can tell you)!
This post should really be entitled “Things I’ve Loved Lately: July”, since it’s well and truly August now!! However, with a holiday and house move taking up much of July, I have scarcely been able to find any blogging time at all and boy have I missed it! The good thing is we’re now all settled into our temporary digs while we continue with the search for a new home, so I’m back and ready to share lots with you lovely people.
July was officially the coldest one in over twenty years here, but I was lucky enough to spend the first fortnight of it in sunnier climes and in an effort to brighten up these rather wet, murky days, I have pulled together some fresh and summery July loves for you. (more…)
There are so many great and hugely readable blogs out there that I enjoy following (and no, they’re not ALL focused on homes and interiors)! I read all sorts of subjects from family life to fashion in your forties (not quite there yet but it’s becoming far too close for comfort…) and at some stage I would like to include a post of my own on blogs that I particularly enjoy and that you might enjoy, too! One lovely (and local!) blog I dip into is Life at the Little Wood. It is both visually and contextually a gorgeous blog; Emma’s style of writing is very easy to read and to relate to and her photography, particularly of her simply stunning home, is beautifully captured.
Anyway, it was recently during one of my escaped moments to Little Wood from the daily humdrum of life that I discovered a lovely little feature Emma has been running with on her blog which has been designed to make us sit back and contemplate some of the little things that we have come across, indulged in or simply appreciated on a month by month basis. The feature – “Things I’m Loving Lately” – is a fun way for bloggers to link up and share their new discoveries and home and fashion finds with their readers (and fellow bloggers of course)! The idea is to share what you’re loving based around four main themes: Beauty, Fashion, Home and Food and is basically akin to a group of girlies having a chat over a coffee and catching up on what’s new. And who doesn’t love that?!
I thought it was a pretty cool and inspiring idea for a monthly feature and one I’d definitely like to link up with, so I have put together my very own list of ‘Things I’m Loving Lately’ for June and I plan to collate another at the end of each month going forward. I hope you enjoy reading them! (more…)
