With our recent hallway makeover painting and decorating completed, I’ve been turning my attention to all the extras that need to be decided on – lighting, rug, hall accessories, that type of thing, so I thought well, why not pull together a little wish list of products I have my eye on? Like most of us, budget is key, so in many ways this is a longterm wish list, however I’ve no doubt it’ll be nothing short of great fun scouring online stores, the humble high street and, of course, secondhand treasure troves for the ideal accessories to complete the look of what is an often overlooked, but centrally very important, room of the home.
I’ve been shopping from inside my home a little bit too; a habit I believe we should all get into, because after all, why shouldn’t an ornament, lamp or favourite chair not be moved around once in a while? It instantly refreshes a room or corner, allows you to be creative in finding new uses for a piece of furniture and (most importantly) it costs zilch.
Actually, I want to write a blog post solely dedicated to the art of shopping from within your own home, as it’s become trendy to stick to a capsule wardrobe and wear your old clothing in new ways, so why not transfer this line of thought to our home interiors, too? Keep an eye out for that one…
Anyway, back to the job in hand!
It’s been a little quiet from me over the past fortnight, but there’s been a very valid excuse for my lack of presence! We have been redecorating our hallway, stairs and landing, which was always going to be our big project for this year (last year’s was the kitchen/living makeover), and so things were turned a little upside down around here for a few days whilst the painter was in. However, I am pleased to say I can finally share some pictures of the (almost) finished result with you – there is still carpet to be laid on the stairs at the end of the week but I couldn’t wait that long to show you around… I have never been known for my patience 🙂
When we moved house almost a year ago, the first part of the house we decided to redecorate was the open plan kitchen/living room. Firstly, we had the existing oak units painted a light cream (Farrow & Ball’s Slipper Satin to be precise), then we laid a new wood laminate floor throughout the entire room and finally retiled the kitchen wall area between the cupboards and worktop. It has made such a difference compared to what it was like before! (Take a look back in case you missed it; I did a first reveal of the work last year here).
Over the past couple of months, we have been busy finishing off the room with softer touches such as window coverings and rugs. There are still some additions I’d like to make to add further warmth to the room, such as the introduction of more colour across cushions and textiles, however it’s definitely getting there.
At last I can finally show you the latest reveal pics! (more…)
This year, when I returned home from holidays in July, I felt totally energised and ready to get really stuck into some decor projects around the house, including our ongoing kitchen update project. This, I’m sure, was partly due to having a fantastically chilled out holiday in a beautiful part of France, but also because I was really inspired by the wonderful flea markets, antiques shops and interiors over there. There was just so much to whet my appetite. Please take me back!!
Alas, not possible, but back home I am and ready to spend some more time here on the blog. So what’s been going on at home? Well, with our kitchen/living space undergoing its gradual makeover these past few months (see some more of this here), I have lots of progress to share with you!
Before we had even moved into our new house, one of the things I had decided I would tackle first was the open plan kitchen/living space. We are now three months in and I’ve finally made some firm decisions on the decor, including what colour to paint the 1990s oak kitchen cabinets (I think this colour will be perfect to bounce some light around), as well as what shade to use for the surrounding walls (I’m loving this new colour from Farrow & Ball which looks great alongside the cabinet colour choice).
