With Mothers Day just over a week away, I figured a little gift guide might come in handy for some of you. It can be daunting trying to think up an original gift idea for that very special lady in our lives; something that is both personal to your mum and properly shows how much you appreciate everything she does for you. Often it’s a case of picking up a scented candle, some flowers or expensive chocs at the last minute, and very nice though these treats are, I thought it would be fun to look at a few alternative gift ideas, each costing no more than a fiver.
I was therefore delighted when the kind folk over at TK Maxx sent me a gift card recently to spend in-store on Mothers Day gift ideas. I have made no secret before of just how much of a TK Maxx fan I am and after a very enjoyable wander around the store, I chose a handful of goodies which I think make quite unique gifts, so if you’re struggling on the present front, have a read for some last minute inspiration…
TK Maxx had a wonderful array of little ceramic bowls to choose from, which I think make the ideal gift simply due to their practicality and versatility, plus they’re so pretty, so what’s not to love?! You can use them as dip bowls, tapas bowls or serve anything from nibbles to fruit salad in them. They also look great as part of a pretty shelf display, and with so many patterns and colours to choose from, there’s a design for every mum.
I chose this lovely turquoise one with a pretty design embossed around the outside, priced at £2.99. Buy a couple for yourself while you’re at it!
Another find for less than £5, this set of four marble coasters makes the perfect gift. Marble is very on trend right now and I think these just look lovely sitting out on a coffee or side table. At just £4.99, they make an affordable, yet really elegant, gift choice.
Also handy for setting a candle holder onto if you want to protect your table surface…
For the foodie mums out there, how about this handy pocket sized cookbook featuring a selection of fast, simple, yet healthy lunchbox ideas inspired by the acclaimed London restaurant chain, Leon. Full of tasty lunchbox ideas, this is perfect for busy working mums out there. There was also a book full of smoothie and juice recipes and a desserts one too, and priced at £3.99 each, a set of three would make a lovely gift, if only for their beautiful cover designs! Guaranteed to make any kitchen shelf look good.
Another practical gift idea, but a pretty one nonetheless, this set of two cotton tea towels will always come in handy. I was attracted by the lace detailing along the edge of them – at least they’ll make the chore of drying dishes infinitely more stylish!
Finally, I can’t have a Mothers Day gift guide without featuring something smelly in it! However, not your average scented bath bubbles or candle this time, but a beautifully packaged liquid hand soap from France. This particular one is made with Argan oil but there was also a lavender fragranced one available, too. The French do toiletries so well and this one is no exception… priced at just £2.99 and smells divine!
That’s it from me – I hope you’ve found something to inspire you to buy your mum for this Mothers Day. Do take a trip to your local TK Maxx store for a look around as they have such a wide range of gifts to choose from.
The problem is trying to resist buying yourself something, while you’re at it!!
