In early 2016, Instagram changed its algorithm, i.e. the way it chooses to display your personal feed, so that rather than presenting users with a chronological list of posts (the whole point of the ‘insta’ bit!), the algorithm organises your feed based on “the likelihood you’ll be interested in the content, your relationship with the person posting, and the timeliness of the post”.
In a nutshell, Instagram now decides on what it thinks you’d like to see in your feed, a lot like the way Facebook has been operating for some time. Many Instagrammers, including myself, have been struggling with this new algorithm, noticing more people following then immediately unfollowing them (the sure sign an insta-bot is involved somewhere) and not seeing some of their favourite feeds appear at the top of the page, literally for months!
I recently read an Instagram post by a fellow blogger, Bee, who blogs over at Queenbeady, about how she’s plain fed up with all this fake-followers-on-Instagram business and she urged fellow ‘grammers to share their favourite feeds from any sphere of interest, be it homes and interiors, lifestyle, nature, food, gardening, anything. I discovered some fabulous accounts that I didn’t know existed, but I simply have too many personal favourites to share on one Instagram post, so I thought why not share my own favourites on the blog?
Keeping to the homes and interiors theme, here is a rundown of the Instagram accounts I think you should check out today, which I have organised depending on the interior ‘look’ you’re into… starting with modern country, moving to scandi, then onto a more eclectic mix of styles and finishing with coastal style.
…be prepared for a huge dose of pure loveliness and incredible home inspiration!
Emma shares snapshots of her beautiful country home on her feed, her style being a mix of vintage French country with a hint of Scandi. Expect lots of soft pastel hues, light filled rooms and delicate floral accents. Swoonworthy!
Another local NI blogger, Judy shares pictures of her immaculate home with its clean, pure style. This one’s for you if you adore your soft greys, palest pinks and a hint of modern French country style… there’s also a link to her online shop where you can purchase some of the homewares featured.
Splashes of colour on an all white palette is always a winning combination and Becca’s feed delivers just this. She has developed a serene home with a traditional feel, but thoroughly modern in its attention to detail.
As the name suggests, this feed is full of beautifully inspiring Scandinavian homes, centred around a palette of cool neutrals and an industrial vibe, but with vintage and midcentury touches, too.
Katie’s style is pure Scandinavian country, with an organic, neutral palette of whispering greys and whites, warmed up with rustic wood accents, candles and fresh flowers. Dreamy.
From her home in Edinburgh, Claire proves you can have a stylish abode with kids in tow. Her home has an airy, minimalist aesthetic, but with a touch of bohemian about it. Organic materials and beautiful rugs warm up a pure white backdrop to create a fresh, welcoming home that’s full of personality.
Lucy has been renovating her 1930s home into a nordic inspired haven with a cool grey and white palette, monochrome detailing, metallic hints and quirky finds. Looking forward to seeing more of this feed.
Interior Designer Kate has a passion for showing that you can create a stylish home on a budget, cleverly using a palette of deep blue through to palest grey with industrial and Scandi detailing for a look that combines traditional with modern.
Aside from the downright hilarious captions throughout her feed, Rebecca shares her love of vintage and Scandinavian style, mixing the two elements together perfectly in her ultra stylish home.
Lucy has a beautifully eclectic style, blending rustic with modern and using pops of colour, metallics and greenery to really lift a room. Her styling is impeccable.
Leanne shows how she has renovated her cottage into a truly stunning and contemporary home with Scandi and industrial accents. Scroll through her feed to see just how far she has come in creating this beauty of a home.
Like myself, Helen is an interiors addict who is also studying interior design at KLC, so I feel a certain affinity with her feed! I love her quirky design tastes and how she puts thing together to make a fun, yet sophisticated interior. Lots of deep blues, lush greenery and eclectic spark.
Another local NI blogger with an awesome Insta feed, Nicola is a self-employed architect with a passion for mid-century design with lots of quirky details that just make you smile.
If I had a coastal getaway, this would be how I’d decorate it. This is a stunning Edwardian home painted all white with soft pastel accents throughout. I can’t believe four kids live here, it’s so clean and fresh! An ideal Insta feed for inspirational coastal living.
Hopefully you’ll find one or two new accounts to follow for your daily dose of interiors inspo! I will aim to update this list whenever I discover new favourites… do you have any other favourites I mightn’t have come across yet? Do share!
