For most of us, now is the time to get cracking with readying our homes for Christmas… or at least starting to think about it! As part of my Christmas 2015 trend watch series of posts, I have already looked at the ‘Winter Wonderland‘ decor theme with its predominance of soft, snowy whites and shimmering metallics. So, if you love an all-white, pure and simple decor scheme with a subtle hint of sparkle, this look is for you. If you haven’t done so already, head on over here for some ideas on creating this look.
Today I want to let you know about another beautifully simple trend that has been inspired over the years by the tranquil Christmas decor schemes of Scandinavia. A personal favourite of mine, the ‘Nordic Homespun’ trend taps into everything Scandi and über cool, yet with a warming, handcrafted, homey feel. This look will work for you if you have a fairly neutral interior already, but like a pop of colour to lift the festive spirits.
This rustic, alpine look is centred around a white, red and grey colour scheme made homely and cosy with the addition of reindeer felt cushions, fairisle knits, handmade decorations and embroidered quilts. Fill baskets with pinecones, hang wreaths of ivy and winter berries, dress your tree with simple red felt hearts, white stars, tin birds and twinkling lights, and infuse your home with scents of gingerbread and spice to complete the effect. Ikea is the obvious first choice stop for this style with its fantastic range of red and white Scandi decorations, but don’t dismiss these other beautiful finds I have picked out for you from other high street stores’ Christmas collections too…

Any favourites? I can really imagine being curled up with a mugful of warming mulled wine from one of those glass cups! Mmmm….
The Nordic Christmas is so beautiful in its rustic simplicity and its pops of berry red colour give it such an appealing warmth. I love it! Another trend that offers a big, cosy hug of warmth is the ‘Heritage’ style – for those of you who prefer a more traditional take on Christmas. Lots of holly, ivy, big log fires and tartan throws coming your way very soon…
In the meantime, Happy Shopping!

This is absolutely my favourite one. It’s traditional but modern at the same time. Most of my decorations fall in to this theme, too. It’s great because it appeals to children … I’m always conscious of not alienating my little two when it comes to décor.

I totally agree, Rachel – when they’re big we’ll miss their little touches on the Christmas tree! My fave look, too.
