It never ceases to amaze me how quickly Autumn lands upon us once the kids are back to school at the beginning of September. First I notice a slightly fresher chill in the air on our morning walks to school, then I go for a run in the park with a friend and we marvel at how the leaves are turning golden. The garden especially is showing lots of Autumnal signs, as the Japanese acers start to turn a beautiful fiery red. I can’t wait to see how the garden looks in another month or so.
However, back indoors we go, as the purpose of this post is to look at pieces we can buy for the home to welcome in the new season and finally let go of Summer for another year. I personally love the Autumn for all the rich colours and textures we can bring into our decor to make our homes feel welcoming and cosy, and when the kind folks at TK Maxx sent me a gift card to spend in their store, needless to say I was delighted! They have recently brought in their new range of Autumn homewares and I couldn’t wait to get over to my local store to take a look around.
Here are some pieces I found that will help you bring your home from Summer into Autumn, all for less than a fiver each!
My eye instantly landed on this cute little ceramic jewellery box, partly because I love the look of copper with white and partly because of the adorable little squirrel on top! It gives a definite nod to Autumn, tapping into both the woodland trend, which is again big this season, plus the trend for all things geometric – check out the lovely embossed pattern. The copper adds a hint of warmth which is essential at this time of year, too. You could use this for lots of things, from storing smaller items of jewellery on your dressing table, to stationery supplies on your home office desk to cotton buds in the bathroom. A win-win piece all around, which was just £4.99.
I also really liked this square copper egg basket which I have used here to display and hold some of my recent apple pickings. It has a lovely smooth wooden handle and the copper has a slightly tarnished look which appeals to my love for that edgier, industrial vibe. Metal and wood will always be a winning combination in my book. This basket could also be used for storing kindling sticks at your fireside in Winter or you could pop a pot of greenery inside.
Or you could just use it for storing eggs, because that’s what it was designed for, after all!
Another bargain buy at £4.99.
Next up is this simple candle set within beautiful silvery crackled glass. One thing that is guaranteed to inject some added cosiness into your home at this time of year is the humble candle and I for one believe you can’t have too many of them about! This one is unscented, so would be perfect on a kitchen worktop or dining table, or in a bathroom, of course. The crackled glass has a nice sparkle that looks stunning when lit on a dark evening. This one is £6.99.
Finally, I picked up this cute little guy for £3.99. I chose the grey ceramic fox as I wanted him to sit in my newly painted drawing room (this is my current work in progress, so more on that soon!), however he is also available in cream. I just think he’s a fun addition to the Autumn home and foxes are adorning homewares all over the High Street at the moment, so again it’s very on trend with this season’s nature / woodland theme.
No doubt he will be named by my children at some stage!
So there you have it. It is possible to take your home from one season into the next with a few simple additions or changes and I hope I have demonstrated to you that you certainly don’t need to spend a fortune in doing so!
Do pop over to your local TK Maxx store soon – they also have a beautiful range of knitted throws and tactile cushions that I spotted on my trip. Slightly more than £5 a piece, but nevertheless cosy additions to your Autumn abode.
