Things I’m Loving Lately: { September }

We are well and truly into autumn now and looking back, September has been pretty kind to us here in Northern Ireland. Plenty of autumnal sunshine, crisp misty mornings and not a lot of the usual wet stuff falling onto our heads!  Hopefully it’s a sign of the times to come and we can expect settled weather and lots of long walks in the beautiful countryside as the season changes.

September for me not only marks the beginning of my absolute favourite time of year, it is also my birthday month and I was very spoilt this year with a scrummy dinner out with my other half and of course some gorgeous gifts too.  Who said turning 39 was a bad thing?  If 40 is half as good as this birthday, I’ll be a happy girl!

Have a look at some of my lovely new treasures and find out what else I’ve been loving this month… (more…)

Hush Homeware Edit – AW 15

It’s always refreshing to find a new destination for fabulous homewares and I was not disappointed when I came across the new ‘Home’ range at Hush.  Better known for its gorgeously chic yet simple womenswear, the Home collection at Hush is a new concept which encompasses lifestyle products such as throws and blankets, fragrances for the home including delicately scented candles, as well as loungewear and a small selection of beauty products.  An exclusive collection still in its infancy, this collection of pieces is reflective of the qualities that in my opinion define the Hush brand: simplicity, understated style & easy living.  I really hope this collection of pieces continues to develop and grow as I think it has incredible potential with these qualities at the fore. Downton Deco

I have to admit I am rather excited that Downton Abbey is back on our screens this Autumn, but also very sad that it’s to be the last ever series!  It is the epitome of autumnal viewing isn’t it?  Dark evenings curled up on the sofa by the fire watching the latest scandals in the Crawley household – love love love it.  For those of you who watch the series, you’ll know that Downton has steamed well and truly into the roaring twenties and we all know that this is the exquisite era which heralded the birth of the Art Deco movement in design and architecture.  It is also one of the key looks around in so many of this Autumn’s homeware collections, so whether you’re a Downton fan or not, I’ve looked into some of the best places where you can find a little glamour and glitz to adorn your home Downton-style this season…

Dunnes Stores Home: A/W ’15 Edit

I recently took a look around my local Dunnes Stores homeware section and am pleased to report some lovely little finds in the Carolyn Donnelly ‘Eclectic’ collection – as the name suggests, this is a range of products for the home with a certain quirky, handcrafted vibe.  Although an Irish department store, Dunnes has started to branch out into the UK, however they do deliver outside of Ireland, so pop over and check out their website’s entire homeware section here.  For now, here are some things that caught my eye from the Carolyn Donnelly range… (more…)

How to create a cosy bedroom sanctuary

cosy bedroom sanctuary

With the colder season already creeping in, there is nothing more welcome at the end of a long day trudging to and from school and work than crawling into a well made bed, wrapping yourself up under layer upon layer of snuggly, dreamy softness.  The only thing is, there’s more to achieving that wonderfully luxurious and cosy bedroom than simply throwing an extra blanket over the bed, so here are some tips on how to create your perfect autumn/winter bedroom sanctuary…  (more…)

How to Create a Home Work Space that Works

More of us than ever before now work from home and regardless of whether it’s on a full or part time basis, plugging away on the computer whilst sitting at the family dining table is definitely not the ideal workplace.  It is possible to build a work space into any home, no matter what size, however deciding on the right space does require a little imagination, too!

Today’s home needs a dedicated work space that is both practical and comfortable to ensure optimum productivity, but hey, who said a little style didn’t hurt, either?  So, if you are planning on creating a work space for your own home, whether it’s a sewing area, study nook or home office, here are some important aspects you need to consider in order to make your space functional and stylish! Car Boot Bounty!

While we were away camping on the North Yorkshire coast at the end of August, we decided to rise early on the Sunday morning and pop along to a local car boot sale which was sited in a huge field outside a pretty little village.  Now, I do love a browse around anything with stalls, be it a farmer’s market, craft fair or church fête, but rummaging through other people’s second hand loot?  I’m in absolute HEAVEN!  I wish we could have had a bit longer there to potter about the place; car boots, foldout tables and even patches of grass were crammed full of vintage treasures, books, antiques, rickety old chairs, baskets and boxes, jewellery and other collectable trinkets amongst many other things, but with the kids in tow, sadly it just wasn’t possible to wander around too long.  That said, I did manage to spot some little homeware finds that I’m pretty chuffed with (and all for the princely sum of £5)! Spend vs Save: Shop the Autumn Woodland Trend

Hello and an official welcome to Autumn!  It’s been a while since I wrote a ‘Spend vs Save’ post, but with so many gorgeous new Autumn homewares arriving into stores, it’s really hard to resist a spot of seasonal shopping, isn’t it?  There are plenty of exciting new trends emerging, too.  From that cosy, tartan-bedecked highland retreat look to the ultra-luxe geometric forms of an Art Deco setting, there is definitely something for everyone out there.

However, one trend that I think truly defines Autumn and therefore has a much broader appeal, is the Woodland one.  Who doesn’t love textile prints inspired by owls and autumn leaves or felt foxes on cushions?  The woodland trend is once again huge this year and is as prevalent throughout the higher end labels as it is on the high street, so it really boils down to what you are prepared to spend on key pieces for your home.  With this in mind, I’ve done a little window-shopping for you and come across a few home accessories that really rock the trend in different ways; some contemporary, others with a more traditional feel.  Read on for my must-haves!
